Transforming our local food system for a sustainable, healthier future
Sustainable Table is an environmental not-for-profit that provides Australians with the tools and information to make ethical eating easy
It is an inescapable fact that the environmental issues of today are all linked to our food system. Without a sustainable environment we will not have enough food to feed ourselves, and without a sustainable food system we will not have a natural environment to support our food-growing capacity.
The current system of sourcing, selling and consuming food in developed nations around the world is heavily flawed. Outdated, large scale agricultural methods damage the environment and increase carbon emissions. The amount of packaging required to preserve and display our food on supermarket shelves contributes to pollution. While the chemicals and hormones applied in the process of a meal reaching our plate harms our health and well-being.
Sustainable Table was founded by high-school friends, Hayley Morris (MFF Trustee) and Cassie Duncan in 2009. The Morris Family Foundation has been an integral supporter of Sustainable Table since its inception. Today, Hayley donates her time as a Director of Sustainable Table, whilst Cassie remains as the head of the organisation.
